Southern Italy has abundant warmth and sunshine, along with great soil, providing agreeable conditions for grapevines. The higher elevations on the slopes of volcanoes provide cool nights for complex wines. The south’s reputation is predominantly built on the red grapes Aglianico, Primitivo, Negroamaro and Nero d’Avola and the white grapes Vermentino, Greco and Trebbiano.
